MICHAEL CLARKE

From 2006 to 2008, Mr. Clarke was Vice President, Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), the country’s largest health sciences university, which is located in Newark, New Jersey, where he expanded UMDNJ’s Corporate Compliance Program by advising and reporting to the board of trustees and the president of UMDNJ on operational and administrative matters related to corporate compliance and ethical business practices. This included reviewing and developing corporate level policies and implementing codes of conduct in the hospital and university settings; determining areas for risk assessment; developing and managing employee compliance and ethics training programs; overseeing the administration of the confidential employee hotline; and managing internal compliance investigations.
Before his position at UMDNJ, he was Vice President, Corporate Compliance for Edison Schools, Inc., in New York City. Mr. Clarke began his in-house career in February 2003 as the Ethics Officer and an Assistant Counsel for Medco Health Solutions, Inc. in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, one of the nation’s leading prescription benefit managers.
Prior to his in-house corporate experiences at UMDNJ, Edison and Medco, Mr. Clarke had nearly 13 years of corporate, civil and criminal litigation experience in both private law firms and in state government, most recently as a litigation partner with the law firm of Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP in Florham Park, New Jersey and its predecessor firm, Shanley & Fisher, P.C. from 1999 until 2003 and as an associate with that firm since 1994.
Mr. Clarke started his legal career at the law firms of Hannoch Weisman and Scarinci & Hollenbeck and was an Assistant Deputy Public Defender in Essex County, New Jersey from 1991 to 1993.
Mr. Clarke received his Juris Doctor from Cornell Law School and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown University.
